YOUR DONATION DOLLARS AT WORK!!
We ask for a donation when you adopt a dog through us and some people do not understand the reason. So here is the story of two German Shepherd pups and their mother who appeared running loose in the countryside in Parker county.
They were lucky because they found a haven with two Good Samaritans. The dogs were in terrible shape: the mother thin and the pups very emaciated- the worst case our group has ever seen. All three were too scared to allow human
contact. After several days of being offered food and water, the pups started to come up to be petted. They were nothing but skin and bones with obvious skin problems. Arrangements were made to take them to the vet, but sadly the short haired one died before she got there. The other will be a longhaired German Shepherd when she gets her fur back! She has just been dipped for the second time for mange. Right now she has no undercoat and not much top coat either. Despite her rough start, she is a happy pup and has been called 'Sunny'. She is about 3--4 months old. Her front legs are starting to get a bowed appearance. The vet believes this is due to the severe malnutrition she has suffered, something like Rickets in children. The condition may or may not get better-it’s a case of wait and see.
It was too late for this
pup to be saved... |
North Texas German Shepherd Rescue is paying the vet bills for Sunny and supplying food for her and her mother. The mother is starting to trust people but not enough to where she can be caught. Her caretakers are very patient people and are not rushing her. Once she is comfortable with them we will pay to get her spayed. There is already a home waiting for her!
What we will ask for in an adoption donation will in no way cover the cost of taking care of these animals. Of course there’s a good chance that the mother dog will be heartworm positive, and the expense of treating her will be covered using those same adoption donations. Without money coming from adoptions we could not afford to do what we do.
Our group is strictly all volunteers. Nobody gets paid, and 100% of all donations go directly towards helping GSD’s. We do this because we love the breed. Our only source of income comes from donations. When people don’t pay the amount they agreed to it hurts other animals like Sunny. The first photos are what the pups looked like in the beginning and then the others are Sunny as she is now. She still has a long way to go but with plenty of TLC she'll make it.
Sometimes
it can be difficult to explain how much our GSDs bring
into our lives. Anne Strusz, who recently lost her beloved
Rudy, puts it into words in a way far better than most. Take a look at her moving tribute
to Rudy, a rescued GSD , who brought a lot of love
into her life, and will be missed very much.
