DUMPED BY HER OWNER at the Dallas Animal Shelter, Dally and her 9 pups were scheduled for euthanasia.

At the very last minute, a foster for them was found. Foster homes are scarce, and one willing to take on the work of puppies even scarcer!

Now Dally is safe, and she and the pups (3 weeks old!) need lots of medical care.

Although Dally is young-18 months at most, she had worms. Lots of worms-all kinds. And the pups, too. And due to neglect, she is heartworm positive. Dally had basic shots put on her at the shelter, but our vet recommends that she not have a rabies shot until she has recovered some weight & conditioning.

Since coming into foster care, Mom and pups are gaining weight! Dally is proving to be a good mother and a great dog. She goes willingly into her crate, walks well on a leash, likes car rides, and while she chases the cat in her foster home, she does so with no ill intent. She is learning basic obedience as well, sitting and downing on command.

Dally and her pups will all be looking for new homes- Be sure to watch for them on our list of available dogs!

If Dally’s story touches you, please share it. Her vet bill is over $400, and we still have to pay for all 9 puppies shots and second worming, as well as Dally’s spay, rabies shot and heartworm treatment. We would gladly accept donations toward her and her pups medical bills via paypal or mailed to:

UPDATE 12/1 - Dally's pups have ALL found homes, leaving Dally behind. Now it is time for her to go to her new home where she can be treated for her heartworms (financial aid available) and begin living her new life as someone's loved pet.

This group was started in the mid-nineties by four members of the Fort Worth Breed club. The club had run a GSD rescue for quite a few years but the decision was made to discontinue doing so. Wendy Wilson had been in charge of rescue for the breed club for a couple of years and thought there was a need for such an organization. So did Becky Slanker, Jo McDonald and Carolyn Wilson and so we created the NTXGSD Rescue. We incorporated a year or so later and became a non-profit organization -- which means your donation can be tax deductible!

We are strictly all volunteers. Nobody gets paid, there is no monetary gain for anybody involved in rescue. The only money this group gets is from the generosity of the general public and the folks who adopt our dogs; we get no support from anywhere else. Some vets are more generous in their price reductions than others and we really appreciate them. We do not have a facility where we keep dogs - we rely on fosters. A lot of the dogs are still with their original owners who for one reason or another can no longer keep their pet. This means the prospective owner gets to talk to someone who knows the dog. Any animal that is still intact must be spayed or neutered within one month of new ownership. There are way too many animals being destroyed every day already.

We gained two additional members: Ann Rodriguez who does a wonderful job with our website, and Roy Sallee who joined our merry band when the white shepherd rescue collapsed in this area. Sadly, Roy lost his battle with lung cancer in 2008. This group is colorblind when it comes to German Shepherds and will attempt to help any German Shepherd to find a forever home! That includes shepherd mixes providing they look somewhat like a shepherd. We have on occasions had dogs on our site that were not shepherds -- recently a Malinois who now resides in NM! It can be done but it's not easy.

Over the past years we have helped people to pay vet bills, paid one man's fine at animal control so he could get his dog home for Thanksgiving, paid for two strays that needed amputations, given money to people who couldn't afford to buy dog food. We also offer training advice -- we would sooner solve the problem then find the dog a new home.

Donate a Thundershirt! You are reading this so you must be thinking about adopting a GSD and that is great! GSDs are one of the most intelligent animals you will ever encounter. They need training and love and will make you the best dog you have ever owned. They want to be one of the family and with correct training will be an excellent asset to it.

Please fill out our rescue application and check out our Available Dogs and thank you for considering our deserving dogs. We hope we can help you find your perfect dog! If you are interested in Fostering a dog, please fill out the foster application found here.

Sometimes it can be difficult to explain how much our GSDs bring into our lives. Anne Strusz, who recently lost her beloved Rudy, puts it into words in a way far better than most. Take a look at her moving tribute to Rudy, a rescued GSD , who brought a lot of love into her life, and will be missed very much.
